Hey guys!
One of the main things you think about when you are faced with the word "Hollywood" is probably glamour, fame, opportunity... Basically positive things.
Hollywood has to be, to many people, a place of hope and dreams. A place where you can be seen and known.
But Hollywood can also be a place of negativity, excesses and consequently, death.
Today, I bring you 3 deaths that shocked the Hollywood industry, and the ordinary viewer and made question the safety of many celebrities.
Let's begin!
#3 The Muder of Selena Quintanilla
When you think about fans, you usually think about someone that will support you and care for you because they like you a lot.
Well, Selena, also know as the queen of Tejano music, wasn't so lucky with a particular fan she had.
Selena was an icon of the latino culture and she was known to be an upbeat, full of life young girl who had a lot to give to Tejano music.
Yolanda Saldívar, was a huge fan of Selena, and she became the manager of Selena's boutiques in 1994. She soon became too close of her supposed idol. Selena, who was unbelievably sweet, decided to sign Yolanda as her agent, and this way she became closer to Selena.
However, things turned bad when Yolanda was not doing the job right when it came to the boutiques, since many clients were complaining. Also, Yolanda became obcessed with Selena.
In 1995 the Quintanilla family discovered that Yolanda was forging checks from the fan club, but Selena didn't wanted their friendship to end, so she decided that instead she wanted more control of the financial situation. And so she decided to see Yolanda personally. On the morning of March 31, 1995, Selena met with Saldívar at her Days Inn motel room in Corpus Christi.
Yolanda tried to delay the financial papers handover, by lying and saying that she had been raped in Mexico, and Selena took her to a Hospital and found out she was lying.
Things escalated to worse when Selena was about to leave the Inn, Saldívar shot her once on the right lower shoulder, severing an artery and causing a massive loss of blood.Critically wounded, Selena ran towards the lobby. She collapsed on the floor as the clerk called the emergency services, with Saldívar still chasing after her and calling her a "bitch". Before collapsing, Selena named Saldívar as her assailant and gave the number of the room where she had been shot. Selena was 23 years old.
Yolanda then locked herself on the pick up truck, threatning to kill herself, but then surrendered.
Selena's murder was a worldwide shock, with her murder being compared to John Lennon's. And on April 12, 1995, two weeks after Selena's death, George W. Bush, governor of Texas at the time, declared her birthday, April 16, Selena Day in the state.
#2 The Murder of Gianni Versace
Gianni Versace was an italian fashion designer, and one of the most influenciable in the decades 1980 and 1990. His work made a revolution in the fashion industry as he was widely known for being irreverent.
If you don't know which brand I am talking about by his own name, he was the main stylist of Versace.
Many famous manequins that walked on runaway in the 90s were affiliated with Versace: Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, etc...
Gianni had made an empire worth millions, and lived quite the luxurious life. He owned a masion in Miami, Florida which was quite the fanciest home someone could ever thought about.
However, on July 15th, 1997, while arriving home from a walk, Gianni was shot in his scalp by a man who instantly ran away. Gianni was found by a friend laying dead on the door steps.
The world was in shock. The most influencial fashion designer was gone.
The murderer was Andrew Cunanan, an FBI wanted serial killer. He was later found dead by a self inflicted shot wound, which meant no explanation to the murder of Versace.
#1 Wonderland Murders
This case is tragic from beggining to end. As well as it can be quite confusing to understand as well.
What made the case famous was the fact that involved the 80s famous porn star John Holmes, a person who was quite addicted to drugs. So addicted that he would go to extremes to get the money to buy them. Including robbing the home of Eddie Nash, alongside with the Wonderland Gang (which he also belonged to) constituted by : Ronnie Lee "Ron" Launius (the leader), Joy Audrey Gold Miller (the lease-holder), William Raymond "Billy" DeVerell (Launius' right-hand man and Miller's live-in boyfriend), David Lind and finally Tracy Ray McCourt.
Eddie however, believed that the Wonderland Gang and John Holmes was involved in the robbery, and there are rumours that the group was seen using some of his jewelery.
Two days after the robbery, on July 1 1981 at 4am a group entered the townhouse at 8763 Wonderland Avenue and bludgeoned to death Launius, Deverell, Miller, and Richardson; the weapons were believed to be hammers and striated (threaded) metal pipes. Ron Launius' wife, Susan, suffered severe brain damage in the attack but ultimately survived and recovered, although she was left with permanent amnesia regarding the night of her attack, had to have part of her skull surgically removed, and lost part of one finger. Neither Lind nor McCourt was present for the attack. Though there were people hearing screams during that night, the bodies were only found in the morning by furniture movers after hearing Susan's moaning.
Though it is believed Eddie was involved in the murders, having been sentenced in the early 2000s for them, the guilt was first given to John Holmes, who died in 1988 in result of AIDS complications. However he was never sentenced, but led a miserable life after the murders.
These murders shocked the masses.
They are the proof that sometimes fame and money cannot help you in certain things, even on your last moments.
Take care, and see you next post!
